MembershipYouth Membership Open to African-American Boys, grades 6-12 Adult Male Membership open to Gary area males with a minimum of a High School education and in good citizenship standing (Advisory Board) Adult Female Membership open to mothers and other females to serve as a support group AAAYC also offers free tutoring for male students in grades 4 to 12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway.
The group participates in black empowerment workshops and sports activities weekly. Once a month members are provided a free excursion to reward them for attending the workshops. Rep. The primary purposes are:1. Promoting self-esteem among African-American males 2. Providing educational opportunities and motivation for African American males 3. Seeking and/or providing employment opportunities for African American males 4. Providing counseling and guidance to African-American males youth 5. Providing mentors for selected African-American male youth 6. Providing programs that foster male responsibility 7. Providing cultural and recreational opportunities to African American males We meet every Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
